Working for Peace in the Church

The Church is divine, but she is also human. The Church Militant is torn by internal conflicts, and many Christians have separated themselves from the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church in communion with the pope. This is a tragic reality, but we must not be resigned to it. We should constantly pray for Christian unity and work to have harmonious relationships with the Catholics and other Christians around us. This won't be easy. It will require docility to the Holy Spirit, humility, patience, and forgiveness. We won't see full Christian unity in our lifetimes, but we can have hope that Christ will unite all of his sheep in the one sheepfold in the end. Here are some resources to help you in your mission of peace:
Grant, O Lord, that we may begin with holy fasting this campaign of Christian service, so that, as we take up battle against spiritual evils, we may be armed with weapons of self-restraint.

This collect prayer begins the Mass for Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Jesus is calling us to "take up battle against spiritual evils." We'll explore fasting itself in a few weeks; during the week of Ash Wednesday, we're going to dig into an important set of weapons the Lord gives us to fight evil: sacramentals.

What's a sacramental? Well, if you attend Mass on Ash Wednesday, you're probably going to receive one on your forehead.
