Epiphany & the Baptism of the Lord

Walk With One (All Year Long)

During Advent, we walked through the four Stages of Spiritual Companionship from the Walk With One initiative of the National Eucharistic Revival. This was to prepare us to accompany one person and share the gospel with them during Christmas Time. But what do we do now that the end of this joyful but short season is in sight?

Of course, evangelization isn't limited to one season or another. Advent prepares us to receive the good news at Christmas Time, and from there the Church's liturgy sends us out to preach the Gospel all year long. How can you continue to walk with the person you've been accompanying—and others—during Ordinary Time and beyond? Or if you haven't been able to walk with one person during Advent and Christmas Time, who might you walk with in the new year?
Grant, O Lord, that we may begin with holy fasting this campaign of Christian service, so that, as we take up battle against spiritual evils, we may be armed with weapons of self-restraint.

This collect prayer begins the Mass for Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Jesus is calling us to "take up battle against spiritual evils." We'll explore fasting itself in a few weeks; during the week of Ash Wednesday, we're going to dig into an important set of weapons the Lord gives us to fight evil: sacramentals.

What's a sacramental? Well, if you attend Mass on Ash Wednesday, you're probably going to receive one on your forehead.
